Programme Overview
|
Geoinformatics is the art and science of gathering, processing,
analyzing, managing and disseminating attributes and geospatial
data of the earth. The course is intended to produce professionals
in IT (Information Technology) fields with added skills using
the geoinformation technology for the economic and physical development
of the country.

To produce graduates who:
- Posses sound knowledge in Geographic Information System (GIS)
- Are technically competent in handling geospatial related
works
- Are able to contribute to the development of geoinformation
science, adapt readily to changing situations and able to continue
learning independently in the acquisition of new knowledge and
skills
- Are able to communicate effectively, have leadership quality
and high ethical values

Programme Approval and Track Records
|
The programme was initiated in the year 1993. The programme
is approved and recognised by the Ministry of Education and the
Department of Civil Service (JPA). It is the only degree level
course available in the Asia Pacific region.

Entry Requirements
|
Candidates need to fullfil UTM's general entry requirements
and the following programme requirements:
STPM
- A pass with at least Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in the following
subjects:
- Mathematics, and
- Physics / Geography / Chemistry
- A pass with distinction in Mathematics in the SPM or equivalent
exam.
Matriculation / Asasi UM
- A pass with at least Grade C (2.00) in the following subjects:
- Mathematics, and
- Physics / Geography / Chemistry
- A pass with distinction in Mathematics in the SPM or equivalent
exam.

Award (Graduation) Requirements
|
Students should:
- Achieve a total of 136 credit hours with minimum CPA of 2.00
- Pass industrial training (equivalent to 6 credit hours)
- Pass GIS training camps (equivalent to 2 credit hour each)
- Complete the undergraduate project at year 4 (Final Year)
